Captain’s Log, December 2nd, 2007
Welcome to the
final week of the Fall Session. Playoffs will take place the next two weeks
leading up to the Christmas break. It is extremely important that envelopes get
turned in on time, as we need to conduct wild card draws for each division in a
timely manner. If you have past due fees owed, you will need to get that taken
care of to be eligible for the wild card draw. For those teams that won’t be
competing in the playoffs, the SDAPA league office would like to wish all of you
a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year’s holiday.
The Spring
Session will begin the week of January 6th. We are now taking sign
ups for new teams in the 8 Ball and 9 Ball formats. If you would like to
start up a team, please give the league office a call if there is something we
can do to help you.
Here are the
dates we will conduct the wild card draw:
Sunday and
Monday divisions: Thursday, December 6th.
Tuesday
divisions: Friday, December 7th.
Wednesday and
Thursday divisions: Monday, December 10th.
To be eligible
for the wild card draw, your team cannot be past due and cannot have more than 5
forfeits for the session. The wild card will be a blind draw of all eligible
teams that do not qualify to compete in the playoffs, excluding 1st
place teams that are exempt from competing in the playoffs. We will post the
playoff match ups on the SDAPA web site as soon as
the wild card draws have been completed on each of the days listed above.
The amount of
teams competing in the playoffs is determined by how many teams are competing in
a division as of the start of the 5th week of a given session. Here
is a quick rundown of how the playoffs are set up:
Divisions of 4
or 5 teams: 1st place hosts wild card and 2nd place hosts
3rd place. The two remaining teams play the following week with the
highest finishing team hosting the playoff championship.
Divisions of 6
to 11 teams: 1st place automatically qualifies for the Blast. 2nd
place hosts wild card and 3rd place hosts 4th place. The
two remaining teams play the following week with the highest finishing team
hosting the playoff championship.
Divisions of 12
or more teams: 1st place automatically qualifies for the Blast. 2
separate playoffs take place and both end up with a playoff champion. Playoff #1
features 2nd place hosting wild card #1 and 4th place
hosting 6th place. The two remaining teams play the following week
with the highest finishing team hosting the playoff championship. In Playoff #2,
3rd place hosts wild card #2 and 5th place hosts 7th
place. The two remaining teams play the following week with the highest
finishing team hosting the playoff championship. All non-qualified playoff
champions will compete in the Blast.
The 9 Ball
Blast will take place the weekend of January 19-20 and the 8 Ball Blast will
take place the weekend of January 26-27. We will post Blast schedules as
soon as the playoffs have been completed. Both events will be taking place at
the Hungry
Stick.
All playoff
teams will be receiving a playoff Captain’s Log
which will detail any specific rules that are particular to playoffs, playoff
fees and anything else you may need to be aware of during the playoffs. Good
luck to all of the teams competing.
Congratulations
to Brandy (Dietrich) and Jesse Pamintuan. They got married on November 25th.
It’s about time. J
If you haven’t
registered your team yet for the Spring Session, please take the time to let us
know your team’s intentions. If the message “your team has not registered
for the Spring Session” is still printing on your score sheet, your team is
one of those teams we are still looking to hear from. Thanks!
Happy Holidays
to all! Be safe and may Santa bring you everything you hope and wish for!
