Captain’s Log, October 14th, 2007

Congratulations to Brandy Dietrich for qualifying for the 2008 APA Single’s National Championships. The Fall Regional was held at Tap Daddy’s in Hemet, CA on the weekend of October 6th. Brandy made it through the 8 Ball skill level 4-5 board she was competing on to make it back to Nationals for another try. It’s not too late to try to qualify for the 2008 APA Single’s Nationals Championships. Check out the message board at SDAPA.com for details on how you can get qualified to compete in this annual tournament.

Bonus points are awarded each week if your team meets all the criteria required to receive bonus points. 1 bonus point is awarded each week in 8 Ball and 10 points are awarded each week in 9 Ball. The criteria required to earn bonus points are as follows:

Neat and complete score sheets (including totaling up innings, marking defensive shots, etc…)

All fees owed must be paid. Past due teams do not receive bonus points.

Return envelope (for teams that receive score sheets through the mail) postmarked the day following your league match. Your return envelope available for pick up (for in house leagues that do not mail).

Fill out the sportsmanship grade for your opponent.

Return envelope must have your 5 digit team number in the return address section.

Teams with a bye need to send the score sheet back in like a normal week of play.

Losing a number of bonus points can prove very costly for a team’s chances of making it to playoffs. If your team is losing out on bonus points, contact the league office to find out what you can do to correct this problem. Lost bonus points cannot be retrieved unless the league office deems that there is a legitimate and compelling reason to reissue them.

If you dispute the loss of any bonus points, you must dispute the lost bonus points within a reasonable time period. For example, we will not award a lost bonus point in week #2 at the end of a session because it makes the difference of whether you finish in a tie for a playoff spot or not. If you have a bonus point dispute, take it up with the league office as soon as possible.

Congratulations to Jim “Coach” Barnard for reaching 1500 lifetime SDAPA matches played. I think he might have won a couple of those, too. J Coach is the first person in San Diego to reach that milestone.

Congratulations also to Jennifer Shaw and Matt Sylvestre on their recent shot gun hitching. They were married on September 27th. May you have many, many happy years together. Jennifer and Matt are both SDAPA members.

If you come across any kind of news involving one or more of our league members, please feel free to contact the league office. We’d be happy to pass along the news through the Captain’s Log and/or the SDAPA message board.
