Captain’s Log, September 4th, 2007
Welcome back! This is the start of
the Fall Session. Sunday and Monday divisions were off for Labor Day, so we
won’t be into full league activities until next week. The Fall Session is the
second of three sessions we do each APA calendar year. Congratulations to all of
the division and playoff winners from
the Summer Session. The Blast tournament is scheduled for the weekend of
September 29-30. 8 Ball is September 29th and 9 Ball is September 30th.
We will be qualifying 16 teams for City Championships in each format in the
Blast tournament. Watch the SDAPA web site for schedules in the next week or so.
The Fall Session will take us to
the end of 2007. There is a lot happening during the Fall Session. We have the
annual Halloween 9 Ball Ghoul Tournament and the annual 8 Ball Turkey Shoot
scheduled around those holidays. These tournaments are single’s tournaments
for San Diego APA members that are active in the league. Also coming up is the 9
Ball Southwest Challenge, the US
Amateur Regional event taking place at Jolt’n
Joe’s in La Mesa and the Fall
Single’s Regionals in Riverside the first weekend in October.
We would like to welcome the new
APA teams joining our league this session. Weekly fees are $40.00 per week per
team and membership fees are $20.00 for each new member joining a team. Weekly
fees are due each week that you play. If your team has a bye, no weekly fees are
due, but you do need to return the score sheet. Score sheets, membership
applications and weekly fees should be postmarked by no later than the day
following your league match. Membership fees for new players are due by the 4th
week of league play. In house leagues that have their envelopes hand delivered
just need to return their sealed envelope to the bar at the end of your league
match.
Weekly fees can be paid with a
check or money order made out to APA. We do also accept cash, but we don’t
recommend sending cash through the mail. If you do elect to send cash through
the mail, we recommend that you use larger bills and tuck them inside the score
sheet. Lost or stolen cash is the responsibility of the team and NOT the league
office.
Please remember that schedules can
change a lot at the beginning of a new session. If you are scheduled for a bye
in the first week, please be prepared to play anyway, as we sometimes add teams
after the schedule is posted. It’s always better to be ready to play in week 1
rather than find time to schedule a make up later.
Bonus points are awarded each week
if your score sheet is neat and complete, fees are current and on time, and the
sportsmanship rating is given to your opponent on the score sheet. 1 bonus point
can be earned each week in 8 Ball and 10 bonus points can be earned each week in
9 Ball. These bonus points do count towards your team points and can have a huge
impact on the final outcome if you miss out on many bonus points.
The
sportsmanship grade ranges between 1 and 5. A 5 is the best sportsmanship
grade that you can give the opponent and a 1 is the absolute worst grade you can
give. 3 is average. If you give the opponent a 1 or a 2, we require a write up
explaining why your opponent is receiving such a poor grade.
Have a great week and Shoot Pool
Good! Brian/Jill/Lindsay
