Captain’s Log, August 5th, 2007
This is the final week of the
Summer Session. The first round of playoffs will start next week. There will be
no play the following week while teams and players attend the APA
National Team Championships at the Riviera Hotel and Casino
in Las Vegas. The final week of playoffs start the week of August 26th.
All kinds of fun takes place at
the National Team Championships, so if you have some free time and want to check
it out, the event takes place August 16th through the 25th.
The 9 Ball Team Championships
go from August 16th through the 20th and the 8
Ball team Championships take place August 20th through the 26th.
Also taking place at the APA National Team Championships are Pro and artistic
events, challenges, minimania
and many preregistered events like 8
Ball Scotch Doubles, 9 Ball Scotch Doubles, Triple
Play Masters and Wheelchair
championship tournaments. Check out www.poolplayers.com
for more details. That’s also the place to track how the San Diego teams are
doing in each event.
We have 3 different kinds of
playoffs depending on the amount of teams in your division. Here is the playoff
schedule for each division size:
Divisions
with 5 teams: 1st place hosts wild
card and 2nd place hosts 3rd place.
Divisions
with 6-11 teams: 1st place
automatically qualifies for Blast. 2nd place hosts wild card and 3rd
place hosts 4th place.
Divisions
with 12 or more teams is a double playoff format: 1st
place team automatically qualifies for Blast. Playoff #1 has 2nd
place hosting wild card #1 and 4th place hosting 6th.
Playoff #2 has 3rd place hosting wild card #2 and 5th
place hosting 7th place.
The team that finished highest in
the standings hosts the final week of playoffs. The playoff champions qualify
for Blast. The
dates for the Blast have changed. The 8 Ball Blast will take place
September 29th and the 9 Ball Blast will take place September 30th
at the Hungry Stick.
If there are any ties at the end
of the session, we use the tie breaking procedures directly out of the APA team
manual to break ties for playoff seeding.
To be eligible for the wild card
draw, teams must be current on league dues and have no more than 5 forfeits
during the session.
We will conduct the playoff draw
the same day your division pages normally get updated. The home page of the web
site www.SDAPA.com has a link to the playoff
page that will break down the playoff schedule for each division. If you do
not have internet access, please contact the APA league office to find out if
your team made it.
For those teams that do not make
the playoffs this session, enjoy the time off and we hope to see you just after
Labor Day for the start of the Fall Session. If the note “your team is not
registered for the next session” is still printing on your score sheet, let us
know what your intentions are so we can get busy putting together schedules for
the Fall Session. We have some divisions out there that could use a few new
teams in it to keep them from falling apart. Contact the league office if you
are interested in starting a new team.
Vegas qualifiers: Good luck in Las
Vegas! Have the time of your lives. You earned it and you deserve it! The league
office will be closed during the APA National Team Championships.
Have a great week and Shoot Pool
Good! Brian/Jill/Lindsay
