Captain’s Log, June 24th, 2007
This is week 4 for Sunday
divisions. All players must be paid up in membership fees this week or they will
be dropped from the roster. Players can still be added after the 4th
week, but membership fees must be submitted before they play.
If you weren’t one of the lucky
teams to qualify for the APA
National Team Championships
in August this year, we are currently taking sign ups for the 2007
9 Ball Southwest Challenge. We will be sending out flyers very soon with all
the details on this fun weekend getaway to Las Vegas, but the dates for this
event are September 14-16. Sign up early to secure your spot in this fun
tournament.
Paul and Jamie Langley are running
Single’s Boards over these
next few weekends at the Hungry
Stick, and they are encouraging the MVP’s
from the Spring Session to participate. Anyone with at least 10 matches in
the format they wish to compete in, and are currently active on a team in that
format are eligible to play. Single’s Boards are what the MVP vouchers are to
be used for. If you do not have vouchers, Single’s Boards are still fairly
inexpensive. Check out the San Diego
APA web site message board for details on how you can get involved in the APA
Single’s program.
Congratulations are in order for
Eric and Alicia Ackerman, who recently brought a new baby into the world. Devon
Michael Ackerman was introduced at 7 lbs 10 oz and 20 inches long. He was born
on Saturday, June 9th. Eric and Alicia are SDAPA members that play
out of the Library.
Congrats! Get that boy playing some pool!
The winners of the drawings for
the Pre-registered
Team Championships in Las Vegas were:

These teams will be competing
against teams all over North America for top honors and big prize money during
the APA National Team
Championships. Wish them luck!
Please remember that we need each
team to grade their opponent on sportsmanship
each week. Grades range from 1 to 5, 1 being the worst score possible and a 5
being the best score possible. Please do not use decimal places. In other words,
give them a 3 or a 4, not a 3.5. If you are giving out a sportsmanship score of
1 or 2, it must be accompanied with a write up as to why they are receiving a
very poor score. In order to receive your bonus points each week, you must
provide a sportsmanship score for your opponent. You do not have to provide a
score on a bye week.
The reason I am reminding everyone
about the sportsmanship program
is because this past week was not exactly a shining moment for SDAPA. I don’t
know if there was a full moon last week, or if the heat played a factor, but
sportsmanship was at an all time low. It is important that each team realizes
the importance of good sportsmanship and practices it nightly.
It is very important to keep
accurate score in each match. Keeping accurate track of innings and safeties
helps compute handicaps.
The definition of a safety is “no intent to make a ball”. That applies
in each instance, whether your opponent picked up the ball to give up ball in
hand or just barely made contact with their ball. If there was no intent to make
a ball, a safety should be marked.
Have a great week and Shoot Pool
Good! Brian/Jill/Lindsay
