Captain’s Log, April 13th, 2008

The Spring Session is coming to a close. If you have make up matches that need to be done, this is the week to get them done. We don’t allow make up matches within the last 2 weeks of the session without League Operator approval, so if you need to get a make up done, contact the league office and we’ll help you get it scheduled. The Spring Session is the last session to qualify for the City Championships for 2008. We qualify 32 teams in 8 Ball and 32 teams in 9 Ball for the City Championships from the Spring Session for a maximum of 64 teams combined from the Summer, Fall and Spring sessions in each format. There will be a Spring Session Blast event, but many Spring Session Blast qualifiers will advance directly into the City Championships. It’s important to make sure you try to get all of your players their 10 lifetime matches before the end of playoffs to make sure they will be eligible to compete in the City Championships. Summer session matches do not count towards 10 lifetime matches for City Championships eligibility.

The message “Your team is not registered for next session” will print on your score sheet each week for the remainder of this session or until you inform the league office of your team’s intentions for the Summer Session. To remove this message, write us a note in the message center with your team’s intentions.

We are now accepting registrations for new teams for the start of the Summer Session. The Summer Session begins on the week of May 18th. Contact the league office if you are interested in forming a team. We might be able to help you find players to fill out your roster.

Triple Play Masters will begin on April 19th. Calling all skill level 5’s, 6’s and 7’s that are interested in a very competitive, non-handicapped format to start or join a team. Masters is a combination of 8 Ball and 9 Ball. The race to 7 includes 8 games of 9 Ball and 5 games of 8 Ball. Each match is a head to head match up against a player on the opposing team and you play it all the way out until one player makes it to 7 wins. Each game won is a point for your team. The Master’s format uses a variation of Texas Express rules for 9 Ball and regular APA rules for 8 Ball. Teams consist of 3 to 5 players, with 3 players competing in a match. Players do not have to be current APA members, but any non APA players added to a team must pay the membership fee to compete in the Master’s format. The Master’s League competes on Saturdays at 5pm and teams can be from anywhere in San Diego County. To give you an idea what a Masters team looks like, my current team is scheduled to play out of the Library and consists of Brian Frankland (skill level 7), Chris Lansaw (skill level 7), Tony Tati (skill level 7) and Glenn St. Pierre (skill level 6). We currently have approximately 9 teams and we hope to have somewhere between 12 and 16 before we start this coming weekend. Weekly fees are $30 per team and $20 of each team’s weekly fees will be paid back in cash based on where each team finishes. Every team that finishes the session will receive money. If you are interested in trying out this format, but you don’t have a team, give us a call. Maybe we can help you find a team.

The Spring Session Blast is scheduled for the weekend of May 31/June 1. 9 Ball City Championships take place the weekend of June 7/8 and 8 Ball City Championships are June 21/22.
