Captain’s Log, March 2nd, 2008

70 San Diego teams will be competing in the 8 Ball Southwest Challenge Tournament at the end of the month. Tony Pallone (The Library) is hosting a SWC warm up tournament on March 22nd and 23rd at The Library. The first 32 paid teams will play. Handicap limit for each 3 person team is 14 and the team entry fee is $30. It’s a single modified format and will be played just like the event in Las Vegas. Contact Tony to put your team into this event. Teams can consist of any APA member with an established handicap and doesn’t necessarily have to be teams or people competing in the Vegas tournament. Tony can be reached at 619-583-5839. More info on this event can be found on the message board of our web site

SDAPA member Heidi Lucas is coordinating the first annual “Irons Tournament” at Players on April 12th. This event is in remembrance of our dear friend Dave Irons. I’ll post more details as they become available, but there is a thread on our message board with all the information for this event as well.

On the back of this newsletter is a flyer for a charity tournament this coming weekend at the Hungry Stick. SDAPA members Rene Rosado and Emily Olanoff are organizing this event and it’s a great cause, so if you are in the giving spirit, have a few extra bucks in your pocket and like playing in a pool tournament, come and check it out!

Last chance to sign up for the Jack n Jill 8 Ball Championships in Las Vegas. We will be conducting a random draw for one slot on Friday, March 7th. The event takes place April 30th-May 2. Each participant must have a minimum of 20 APA 8 Ball matches played, must be active on a team and the team handicap limit is 10. Participants also are not allowed to be participating in the Single’s Championships taking place at the same time. Contact the league office to enter the draw.

Congratulations go out to Colt Roberts and his wife on the birth of their son, Skyler Lyle on February 22nd.  Colt plays APA 9 Ball in east county on Sunday nights.

We will announce the winners of the Single’s Regional in next week’s Captain’s Log.

It’s time to start the Masters league back up. We already have teams signed up, but we could certainly make room for more. The Masters league features 3-5 person teams in a combination of 8 Ball and 9 Ball. Each player that competes in this format will play up to 8 games of 9 Ball and 5 games of 8 Ball in a race to 7 against your opponent. This is not a handicapped league, nor does this league feature skill level limits. Build yourself a strong team and compete against some of the best players in the county. The Masters format is a Saturday afternoon league that starts at 5pm and plays a very relaxed schedule. League fees for a match are $30 per team, 3 people play each week, and the object is to accumulate as many game wins as possible each week. Each 8 Ball or 9 Ball game win is a point for your team. Each team receives prize money at the end of the session based on where you finish.

We are starting the Masters League on Saturday, April 5th. If you would like more information on this very fun and exciting format, please call the league office or see the website for more details.
