Captain’s Log, February 17th, 2008

Southwest Challenge registration forms are due in the SDAPA league office this coming Friday, February 22nd. Any teams who do not submit their fees by Friday will lose their slot to the teams on the waiting list. We will not be available to meet any teams who wait until the very last minute to submit their entry forms. To have it into the league office on time, you should mail it no later than February 20th.  We do have 12 teams on the waiting list that would just love to get a spot in this event, so consider yourselves warned that we need these back by the deadline of February 22nd

Jill, Lindsay and I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Johnson family and friends in Poway for the loss of their husband/father. Jim Johnson was a long time member of our league and Ellen, Nancy and Shannah are current members of our league. Jim and I talked quite often about his relative in Bakersfield, who was not only an outstanding poolplayer, but owned an APA host location where many Single’s Regional events took place. Jim will be missed.

Our deepest condolences also go out to the friends and family of Brian “Snowman” Trum for the loss of his wife, Billie Andrew. Billie joined the APA back in January of 1998, and she brought with her several members of the San Diego Chapter of the Boozefighter’s Motorcycle Club, and they have been a joy to have in the league. Billie’s passion for the game made that possible. Our hearts and sympathies go out to Brian and their tremendous group of friends. Billie captained an 8 Ball and a 9 Ball team out of The Hungry Stick.

Our sympathies also go out to the friends and family of David Heinen. David was a member of the SDAPA and the owner of Shooterz on 30th St. in North Park. David had a long-standing affiliation with the SDPA and was arguably one of the best pool players in the county.

A wish for a speedy recovery goes out to Milton Vannoy, a fairly new member of our league who was involved recently in a horrific traffic accident. Our thoughts are with him during this difficult time. Milton plays in the Monday Player’s 8 Ball division and was making plans to compete in the March Southwest Challenge in Las Vegas.

It’s been a really rough couple of months for SDAPA. With that said, we do have some happy news to share….

Brian and Marissa Jackson are proud new parents of a baby boy, Preston James, born on February 5th. Martin Salgado and Jennifer Myers are the proud new parents of a baby girl, Melinda Kae, born February 11th. All four are currently or have been members of the SDAPA. Congratulations on your new arrivals.

Due to the postal holiday on Monday, there may be some missing match information for Wednesday divisions. We had to mail out on Friday to make sure you all received your score sheets on time.
