Captain’s Log, January 27th, 2008
This is the 4th
week of the session for every division except for Monday night Player’s in
house. All memberships must be paid up by week 4. All unpaid members will be
dropped from their respective rosters. It is important to note that Sunday is
the first night of each week of play. If you are on a Sunday team and a Thursday
team, and if you decide to send in your membership fees with your Thursday team,
you will be dropped from your Sunday team because we will not have received
membership fees by the time Sunday matches get processed. Once players are
dropped from a team, their personal match information with that team gets zeroed
out. We do not go back in and fix that info. It is also important to make sure
you send your envelope in ON TIME. If it isn’t here when we process, unpaid
players will be dropped.
Players (new or
unpaid) can be added to rosters after week 4 (except for City
Championship qualified teams), but they must pay their membership fees
before we will add them to the team. Any player that plays after week 4 that
hasn’t submitted membership fees will be marked paid and the team will be
marked past due for those fees, which will also cost the team a bonus point(s).
The SDAPA lost
a couple of valuable members of its family over the holidays, members that
touched the lives of so many of you. David Irons, age 49, died in a single car
accident on his way to his home in Imperial Beach. While Dave did start his APA
career in the South Bay area, he ventured out to several parts of the county
with his APA teams, making friends with everyone he came in contact with and
playing several nights a week. Not only was Dave an outstanding player (skill
level 7 in 8 Ball and 9 in 9 Ball), he thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge
of the game with anyone interested in improving their game. To say he had a
passion for pool would be an understatement. Dave and I were teammates on a
Triple Play Masters team. I’m still troubled that he is no longer with us.
SDAPA also lost another dear member in Dennis Will (age 58 in Lakeside) to
cancer. Dennis strictly played in East County, but everyone who knew him liked
him. Dennis, in the words of Tony Sibley, was the kind of guy who would happily
sit out a match if it meant that one of his teammates got to play in his place.
Dennis joined the San Diego APA in 2000 and accumulated 251 APA matches. Jill
and I regret never getting to know Dennis on a personal level and our sympathies
go out to everyone who got a chance to know Dave or Dennis, and especially their
families. They will be missed!
We also have
some new arrivals to our SDAPA family. Paul and Jamie Langley had a baby girl,
Claire Ayn, born January 16th. Tara and Mike Kizer had a baby boy, Andrew Bryce,
born January 17th. I can see these two little ones 21 years from now squaring
off in an APA match. Congratulations to all of you. Get some sleep!
The first 64
teams signed up AND paid up by the Feb. 9th deadline will participate in the
Bonnie and Clyde tournament. The tournament
flyer can be found on our web site. We currently only have 2 slots left for
the Southwest Challenge. Once those
slots are filled, we will begin a waiting list. In the past, we have usually had
pretty good success in getting those team on the waiting list into the
tournament .
Have a great
week and Shoot Pool Good!
